It is such a privilege for me to head the New York chapter of the oldest international travel organization in the world. As many of you know, I am also a longtime employee of Micato Safaris and this year celebrated 30 continuous years with the company.

Why am I sharing this news? In part, because the mantra of SKAL is doing business among friends and sharing each other’s successes. But also, my longevity at Micato speaks to a simpler idea that I very humbly represent: Dependability.

I want you to be able to depend on me as your president — to share information and facilitate connections — but I also want all of us, our entire membership, to have multiple opportunities to depend on each other. Which is why in the coming weeks, I will be setting up a private LinkedIn group for SKAL New York members, which I encourage you to join.

Why does the world need another LinkedIn group? Well, it’s not just another group. It’s ours. By way of reminder, your membership in SKAL gives you access to decision makers in the U.S. and on every continent. Our members are tour operators, airlines, travel agents, hoteliers, travel media, public relations professionals, cruise lines, travel industry associations, tourist offices, consortia, restaurants, attractions and many other travel related companies.

So as I begin to put together this LinkedIn group, which again, would be a private gathering our New York chapter’s nearly 100 members, it’s good to bear in mind that our chapter is part of and has access to the resources and human capital of a dynamic global organization.

It all comes back to dependability. I want all of us, in our chapter in particular, to be able to depend on and trust each other across as many platforms as possible, so this private LinkedIn group is just one idea among many that I would like to implement to make all our professional lives a bit easier.

Our leadership team has accomplished much in these past few months and I’m looking forward to sharing updates with you. But for now I wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here, and SKAL New York is here, to help you realize as many of your professional — and personal — goals as possible.

Warmest regards,

Iris Salazar
President
SKAL International New York

P.S. Lastly, while I have had the pleasure of getting to know many of you and look forward to eventually meeting all of you, I’m aware that you may not know everything about me, so here is a brief bio.
